Bank Sponsors Ross Blackie Talbot Scholars
The Bank of Bermuda was the lead sponsor in the Ross "Blackie" Talbot Charity Classic (RBTCC) Education Awards.
These scholarships range from $5000 to $15,000, adding to a total of $90,000 to 10 deserving young Bermudians. The scholarships were granted to 4 new students and 6 students who received the award last year. The students who received an Education Award in 2008 were eligible this year as well, in efforts to encourage young people to continue their studies.
The scholarship winners are Erek Fox, Shaydrina Hassell, Jayné Smith and Antionay Tankard. The second year winners are R. Andra Bassett, Vanessa Bean, Terrence Daniels, Sharneil Paynter, Dietra Trott and Deneca Zuill.
Chairman of the RBTCC Clement E.F. Talbot said: "Collectively your ongoing support enables us to help students, who not only maintain good school grades but who are also in need of financial assistance."
Senator Jeanne Atherden, Chair of the RBT Awards Selection Committee, presented the awards to the 10 students. She said, "We all find it most gratifying that the RBTCC is able to assist these deserving young Bermudians to complete their education. Our community at large will benefit from their qualifications, skills and knowledge."
The RBTCC have provided 28 students with over $335,000 in scholarships to date. Senator Atherden added: "These are Bermudians who are going to be leading the Bermuda of tomorrow."
